Jeff Prankev

Jeff Prankev (Formerly known as “Dislexik”) has been playing with electronic music in various forms since 1994. What started as a hobby, producing music slowly grew into an obsession and by the late 90's he bought his first CD deck and turntables to incorporate his growing music collection into live performances.
His background was originally as a drummer and around the turn of the millennium he joined horror-rock outfit “The New Jacobin Club”as their drummer andprogrammer. He performed and recorded with them for seven years and still collaborates with them on occasion.
In 2004 he released his first original 12” on Pure Funk Recordings, a Toronto-based breakbeat label. He continued to release breaks tracks for the next few years and received support from artists such as The Crystal Method, DJ Icey, Far Too Loud and Myagi.
In 2008 he decided to study music production at Alchemea College in London, UK. While traveling Europe, he found he was drawn more to techno these days which is the
genre he had originally preferred in the 90s.
When he returned to Canada he changed gears and started to release and perform music along those lines, signing first with Melting Man’s Gold N Tech label. He has released a string of acclaimed EPs through that label and has had several tracks picked upby the Straight Up! compilation series. Since also release music with System Recordings, Traffic Records, Flavourite, Pyramid Recordings, Truespin Records, and Pop & Lock. He has also worked closely with Skylab Records, releasing a single and performing remixing duties.
As a performer, he has played at clubs and festivals across Canada andis a mainstay at
Connect Festival. His sets range from deep and funky to dark and aggressive with a strong emphasis on percussion and texture. His mixing is focused on layering, looping
and the journey from theme to theme, playfully guiding dancefloors through nightmares and dreamscapes.
He currently lives in Saskatoon, SK, Canada where he continues to perform and produce music, also working as a production instructor and electronic musical instrument
designer.
